DIY body scrub recipe from melanie martin, founder of mōksa organics

Body scrubs are on my my favorite products to create.  They are incredibly fun to make because there are no rules and I really enjoy free form with creating. You can use any type of oil and seasonal foods to create your own perfect, luxurious spa treatment.   Scrubs are important because they remove old skin cells and moisturize your skin.  I love that you can get your healthy glow on by using raw foods from your kitchen!  You can use juices, coconut milk, aloe-vera juice, ground oats, raw sugars or sea salts, ground coffee, ground hemp seeds or poppy seeds, mashed fruit like strawberries or cranberries, tea blends, fresh herbs, cut flowers and even fruit peels.  The scrubs you make will have a shorter shelf life than those available in the shops but will be more abundant in healthy goodness.

If you like creating handmade gifts, body scrubs are perfect!  They make wonderful holiday gifts, bridal gifts or party favors for your special occasion.  You can spice up the fall and winter months with a chai scrub or welcome the spring with a fresh floral blend.  Since we're at the height of summer, I chose a simple lavender mint recipe to cool the skin.

DIY body scrub:

8 ounces of raw organic sugar
2 ounces of organic grapeseed oil
1 ounce of organic coconut oil
Half ounce of organic sunflower seed oil
1 TBS ground or whole lavender flowers
½ tsp ground mint leaves
3 drops of lavender essential oil
2 drops of peppermint essential oil

You can find most of these ingredients at your local health food store, including your essential oils.  I like my scrubs with extra oil so that it settles at the top.  Add a few cut flowers on the top of your scrub so your presentation is complete for gift giving.  Store the unused scrub in the refrigerator and you can re-moisten your scrubs by adding fresh oil as needed.

Enjoy!
