AW SNAP. this is real good. if you like "the king of fruits".
durian is an aphrodisiac and so it pairs well with other aphrodisiacs, especially chocolate (cacao), cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. i made a raw chocolate sauce and used those spices in the ice cream. this is such an easy recipe, and if you aren't crazy about the flavour of durian, the taste isn't as strong. if you ARE crazy about durian, you can leave out all the add-ons and just blend frozen durian and cocnut water straight up with a bit of cinnamon. my mom did that the second time and it was super yummy.
durian ice cream: serves 3 or so
ice cream:
1 package (3 pods) frozen durian meat, you can find this at your asian foods store
1-2 cups vegan milk/coconut water
1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla
add ons:
goji berries to garnish
cacao nibs
salt
put the durian meat - pits removed - into your blender with the cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and add as much milk or coconut water as needed to make it thick and creamy like ice cream. put in bowls and add your extras. yum!

This sounds so good, although I have never tried Durian :(. I am really wanting to try a raw cleanse soon (I am vegetarian, wanting to become vegan...) and I am not sure where to begin. After eating cooked grains and other foods of the sort, I have noticed that I don't feel as energetic and happy. Do you have any advice on getting started in a cleanse/raw lifestyle in a world that tells me to do otherwise?!
This looks delicious! Unfortunately I've never heard of Durian before and I'm not sure if I get it here in Germany...
Oh, and I am also a vegeterian, hopefully soon vegan and want to learn more about raw food. Your blog is awesome and a great inspiration!
wonderful, kathy! awesome goal.
for sure! i really recommend getting educated on the subject of raw and vegan food. check out my "resources" tab to see some great books and docs. once you get informed, it makes the whole process so much easier and enjoyable.
to cleanse, i suggest just eating mostly raw, whole foods for a week or so. have a green smoothie for breakfast, tons of fruit throughout the day, and a GIANT salad for dinner. there's so many ways you can change up that routine too. like, salad and smoothie options are literally endless...
it's important you get enough calories, so make sure to eat enough. drink lots of water and try to get in some light exercise every day.
:) anything else you're wondering - please email me!
woo hoo! go vegan ;) yeah durian's pretty bizarre, you might not be able to find it.
thanks so much, isabel! have a wonderful day.
you are the 2nd person i've heard talk about durian so i was super excited when my boyfriend and i made durian ice cream.... i have a feeling i made the same face your brother did when i ate it, it was very interesting to say the least. at least now i can cross it off the list of things i wanted to try. i also just wanted to tell you that i absolutely love your blog, i believe i came across it through stumble upon and i love it. all of your recipes sound amazing ( i just bought all of the stuff to make the choc pb pie) for such a young age you are very acknowledgeable, you're definitely and old soul, thanks for all of your posts, keep them coming!
hahaha thanks for the honesty, most people don't dig it ;)
thank you very much, michelle! i'm really glad to hear that and appreciate it.
Have you heard of Earthsprout? I think you would love it! Elenore's blog reminds me so much of yours. Nature, raw food, beautiful living!
